Region One News – March 2020

March 2020

By J. Rick Cipot

I really need to address how my calendar seems to change pages faster than everyone else’s. How March crept upon us I will never know. As of right now, there are over forty WBAC events on the club calendar! That’s amazing – actually what is really amazing is that I was able to gather that information all in one place at one time, our new Wally Byam Airstream Club website. Yes, it is still a work in progress and I want to personally thank everyone working on it. To me, the website will never replace my printed Blue Beret. I do enjoy waiting for it to arrive in the mail, peel away the plastic sleeve with the scent of real printer’s ink waffling from the pages. Nice, my Kindle never gives me that satisfaction. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the region editors for their monthly contributions. Keeping in touch with our Grass Roots is the fundamental reason for such a successful club. I will admit that there have been a few occasions over the many years that I have been Region One editor when I scratched my head and lost sleep over what words could I possibly put to paper for this month’s contribution. Needless to say, in all the years I have missed only one issue.

Many months ago I promised that I would get off my soapbox in regards to our wonderful Big Red Numbers, I lied. I cannot tell you how excited I am that our executive committee members have taken up the call and are now following a new tradition, with their signatures you will note the added notation; Big Red Number XXXX. Thank you all so much. At the unit level

a practice of adding BRN XXXX to our email signatures has been slowly growing throughout our membership.

One last bit of business, please get your rally sheets in for the incredible, not to be missed Region One 2020 Rally. You have until the end of the month to take advantage of the reduced early bird entry fee. You don’t need me to tell you it will be a wonderful time to reconnect with all of your regional buddies and enjoy four days of adventure and friendship. Keep well and remember; keep the shiny side up.
