Unit Activities in Region 1
Don’t forget that several units in Region 1 are planning Holiday Parties in early December. Information is available from unit newsletters, unit websites, or via http://region1.wbcci.net/, which has links to most of our unit websites.
A review of our Region 1 Units’ rally schedules for 2010 show a wide range of activities, including winter luncheons and frequent rallies “in season”. Region 1’s largest units, Charter Oak CT Unit and New England Unit, are each planning two rallies in most of the warmer months. Do take advantage of these wonderful choices. WBCCI Members are welcome at any unit event – subject only to making timely reservations when required!
Mid-winter IBT Meeting & Rally, January 19-23, 2010, Rayne, LA
The International Board of Trustees will hold its mid-winter meeting at the Rayne Civic Center, 300 Frog Festival Drive, Rayne, LA, from Tuesday, January 19th through Saturday, January 23rd. The meeting is expected to include lively debate of WBCCI finances, including projected operating deficits, and the relative merits of a dues increase, budget cuts through reduced member services, and an aggressive marketing and advertising program proposed by the WBCCI Marketing Committee. Members are urged to attend this important meeting and to present their views concerning all matters on the meeting agenda.
The associated rally offers members the opportunity to visit picturesque areas of southeastern Louisiana’s Gulf Coast, with several National Wildlife Refuges. And, Rayne bills itself as “The Frog Capital of the World”!
What’s News in Region 1?
Your Region President plans the next Region 1 Newsletter following the Mid-winter IBT Meeting in Rayne, LA. Your suggested news items will be most welcome, preferably after January 1st.
Blue Beret Is “Online”!
Blue Beret way now be seen at the WBCCI website, http://wbcci.org, under “General Information”. The reproduction of the magazine’s text and photographs is excellent. Here’s a great way for members to keep in touch with WBCCI when they are away from home and their normal mail service.
WBCCI’s Airstream Forums
WBCCI’s Airstream Forum has added two new forum areas devoted to direct interaction between consumers and Airstream technical and customer relations personnel, for the purpose of one-on-one problem solving.
The first new forum area is provided by Airstream’s Tech Help Group, and may be found at: http://forum.wbcci.org/airstream-tech-help-group/.
The second new forum area is provided by Dave Schumann, General Manager of Airstream’s Customer Relations Group, and may be found at http://forum.wbcci.org/conversations-airstream-inc-service/.
Please extend the forum hosts a warm welcome and feel free to ask any questions you may have. Selected questions and answers may be published in the monthly publication, Blue Beret. The forums are hosted by Airstream personnel with other ongoing duties, so please allow ample time for responses to your questions.

2009 – 2010 RV Shows

Recreational vehicle shows present a good opportunity to see many recreational vehicles without driving from RV dealer to RV dealer. Most RV shows charge a modest admission, but for most RVers it’s a modest investment for the opportunity to see a wide-range of motorhomes, B-vans, and travel trailers in one place, often at special “show prices.”

The first sign of the gathering is the stream of gleaming silver, bullet-shaped recreational vehicles traveling down the road. Shortly afterwards, Airstream trailers and motor homes are settled into their gathering area – a campground or a fairground is the most common location – with country, state and WBCCI flags proudly displayed.

The Airstream motto is “Fun, Fellowship, and Adventure” which can be seen in the digital Airstream photo albums on this page. In your travels, if you happen upon an Airstream gathering, be sure to stop in and say hello. We welcome the opportunity to meet you.

Whether you are in your Airstream, at home or on the road, we hope you enjoy your time browsing through our Airstream photo albums. Come back to visit us often as we continue to periodically add new albums.

Wandering to Wyoming

2010 “Wandering to Wyoming” Region One Caravan
Published: October 30, 2009
By Rich and Dottie Walbridge
Wandering to Wyoming CaravanRegion One is going to Gillette, Wyoming to attend the 53rd International Rally and we are leading a Region One Caravan that is crossing mid-America with some very interesting and fun stops. Our caravan of 24 (max), Airstreams will rendezvous at the Danbury, CT (eastbound camping rest area) on June 1, 2010.

We have 22 days of sightseeing, touring & traveling, so we are meandering with multiple-night stops and not rushing along. Our stops include 20 days with full hookups in campgrounds, a fairground and a Cabela’s camping area. Airstreaming across America, where you will see some of the most fascinating landmarks you have heard or read about can be a reality for you. We have arranged this caravan so you won’t feel like you have been on the road pushing for that destination way off in the distance, instead, you will wonder how you ever drove 2,300 miles and just didn’t realize it. Experience “PULL-IN—UNHITCH—TOUR”; no time-consuming registrations or paying out of pocket at the campgrounds; we have done it all for you.

Caravanning is all about friends traveling together and enjoying each other’s company, so we have worked out a schedule where our daily tours, campfires, ice cream socials, dinners and happy hours take place just when you want them; we have not encroached on downtime so you can relax or be as busy as you want to be. Our drives are reasonable in length and will not be considered a chore on driving days. Hooking up and traveling with fellow caravanners will be easy because we have even arranged “work” for everyone to take part in. Providing some responsibility for caravanners is just part of the game of getting member’s schedules together, thus traveling and having fun with someone you might not know quite as well as another.

Tours included are the Corning Glass Factory, Indianapolis Raceway Grounds, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and the John Deere Factory. We also are including a “Half-Way There” dinner at the famous Machine Shed in Davenport, IA and multiple Ice Cream Socials, 2 BBQs, 3 breakfasts, an additional dinner plus the big finale of the “Farewell Banquet” in Gillette. With dozens of other sights and attractions along the way (for you to do on your own), and you’ve got quite a vacation package.

Costs: (2 in an Airstream $1130) (1 in an Airstream $980) (Extra Person $221) in U.S. Funds.

Region One Rally July 2009 Press Release

“Take Me Out to the Ballgame” July Press Release

Published: July 7, 2009

Take me Out to the BallgameWeekenders beware! If you are still working and cannot justify time away from the job for most of a week in August, then come join us for the weekend. We have cut the price in less than half.

The cost of camping with us is $143 for two in a trailer which consists of 2 dinners, and 2 breakfasts, fun activities you only get at a region rally like a Vintage Open House, a tour of the National Parks with a presentation by Airstream Life magazine’s, Rich Luhr, games like Card Bingo, Wiffle Ball, the Fantastic Fan contest where we’ll decorate our Airstreams and ourselves in sports team décor, enjoy professional musical entertainment and of course have ice cream……because everything is OK when you have ice cream. So, come in Friday afternoon and take in the Weekender rate, unwind a little bit and then join in the fun.

We have good parking…mostly on grass just off the paved interior roads of the CVE adjacent to the Blue Ribbon Pavilion and two additional game or seminar rooms that are totally air conditioned. Even though we don’t have sewerage on each site, we will have an opportunity to dump whenever we want to. We no longer will be limited to just the Sunday morning pump-out and there is a wash-water dump in the camping area where you can dump a “Blue Boy”. No wash-water on the ground please.

Those of you who have the time and inclination for 5 days of rallying in Vermont….the only thing that has changed is the fact that we’re going to have some very-welcomed visitors for the weekend and our new rally building is totally air conditioned.
No one is going hungry while at the R1R in Vermont. Leave the grill home, forget the sandwich meat and the tuna fish; the meals are on us. Let the bride sleep in!
As originally planned, we will have water and 30amp electric. So if it is warm, we’ll run the A/C; if it is chilly, we’ll run the heat. Bring plenty of white drinking water hose and at least a 30′ length of 30amp cord.
The Vintage Airstreams will be parked together, nearby the air conditioned restrooms and showers. This is such a nice benefit to our Vintage trailers; we look forward to their display. The Blue Ribbon Pavilion also includes the use of two separate meeting rooms where hobbies, seminars, the flea market and meetings can be held without interfering with activities in the main room. The main room is our dining and general meeting facility that is big enough to house 10 Airstreams.
Dick Wheatley #9455 from the WMNH Unit is part of The Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts, Inc. which has organized the Stowe Antique & Classic Car Meet. The show is taking place August 7-9 and normally attracts about 700-900 show cars. Dick has made available 10-free tickets as well as brochures for our use. Tickets are available on 1st come basis.
The local Airstream dealer, The Marine Collection will have Airstreams on display for your perusal, etc.
Our Hobby/Craft Committee Chairperson, Dottie Walbridge has two very interesting crafts that will be limited to 20 persons each. Signup sheets will be at registration.
Get out your “PF Flyers” or your “Keds” because we’ll be running bases at our “Wiffle Ball baseball game.
The wifi works in all areas, so stay connected with your friends and family.
Make sure you don’t forget your sports themed décor for your Airstreams and yourselves. We’ll be awarding prizes for the best decorated RVs and “Fantastic Fans”.
The Flea Market/Hobby show will be on Thursday night….don’t forget those goodies! Got a door prize gift to donate? How about a raffle gift? Baking some cookies? We can use them for the welcome center.
Don’t miss the big Region One Rally where all your friends will be in Vermont. You will be glad you came. For additional information, write to Rich Walbridge at RegionOneRally09@Gmail.com or call 781-254-6399.

Region One Rally May 2009 Press Release

“Take Me Out to the Ballgame” May Press Release

Published: May 28, 2009

Take me Out to the BallgameBeyond all the activities being offered at the Champlain Valley Exposition, the Region One Rally Committee has added two tours being offered by Notch Above Tours. These particular tours are optional and interested attendees should make easy, over-the-phone arrangements with their credit card by August 1, 2009. The tours being offered are (click on the tour name for more information):

1. History Abounds in Middlebury
2. Stowe, Sweet Stowe

Since our membership includes such talent, why not show it off? So, we’re having a hobby show where our members and their families will display their talents (which may interest others to take up such hobbies themselves), and possibly sell them too. We know there are some excellent needle workers that create phenomenal quilts, baby & doll clothing, both knitted and crocheted prized possessions along with those craftsmen who create wood carvings, paintings, drawings and those who also grow & cut exotic plants, and others that take great photos and create super slide shows, etc. There is no limit to what you may display or sell.

Do you want information on how to run a caravan? Or just want to know what caravanning is all about? We have three, seasoned caravanners who will break down what it takes to put together caravans on a large scale and well as a unit-level scale. You will learn how to keep the books straight, organize your route and stopovers without pre-driving and to ensure all your members have everything they might need along the way.
Are you interested in computing on the road? We’ll have a discussion group led by a person who is well-read with what it takes to keep in touch while traveling in your Airstream.
The Lunch on the Lake Cruise (which is included in the basic rally fee), will prove to be one of the most memorable activities offered at a Region One Rally. We’ll enjoy a full buffet on board the Ethan Allen III while cruising on Lake Champlain.
Every Airstream will be parked on grassy sites (24’X60’), adjacent to smooth, paved roads with water and 30amp power. Handicap parking is available nearby the entrances to our facilities.
Vintage trailers will be parked together where they’ll be in close proximity of restrooms and showers. We’ll all get pumped out on Sunday morning prior to leaving for home….all part of the rally fee.
Don’t forget your favorite sports team décor! We’re going to dress up ourselves and our Airstreams and compete for the “Fantastic Fan” awards prizes. Everyone will be wearing sports theme clothing all week, so dig out that old Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, etc. hats, shirts and banners and join in the fun!
We look forward to a view of a field of aluminum with their flags flying in the fresh air of Northern Vermont. Come to the BIGGIE of the Year! You’ll be glad you did.

Region One President’s Newsletter – May 2009

Region One President’s Newsletter – May 2009

Published: May 28, 2009

By Franklin Sanders

Franklin Sanders, Region One President As May draws to a close, most of our units have held their Spring Business Meetings, selected their delegates to the International Delegates Meeting in Madison, WI on June 30th, and determined their votes for candidates for International Offices and on motions to be presented to that meeting. The next Region 1 Newsletter, in July 2009, will report upon the Delegates Meeting and two meetings of the International Board of Trustees, on June 26th and July 5th.

Spring Business Meetings
Your Region 1 President attended the Spring Business Meetings of our four U.S. units and of Québec Canada Unit. (Canadian Atlantic Unit will meet on June 6th.) Most of the meetings were well attended by unit members. The election of members of the International Nominating Committee attracted the most discussion, as Leo Garvey of the Metro New York Unit in Region 2 is expected to be nominated from the floor in competition with R.B. Bernd and Don McKelvay, whose names were proposed by the outgoing International Nominating Committee. Proposed Amendment No. 1 to the WBCCI Constitution, to adopt Vision and Mission Statements proposed by the 2020 Long-Range Planning Committee, and Amendment No.2, to permit units to select Affiliate Members who are Regular Members of units in the same region as Alternate Delegates will be supported by each unit which has voted to date.

Motion re: Unit Caravans
Rick Cipot, a member of the New England Unit, presented a Motion to that unit’s Spring Business Meeting to amend WBCCI Bylaws & Policy, page 47, to create separate criteria for fully-sanctioned WBBI Unit Caravans. The Motion was coauthored by Past Region 1 President Bob Thompson and Rick Cipot, and is intended to amend the WBCCI Bylaws & Policy via Section 1 or Article XVI-Amendments of the WBCCI Constitution, by the vote of at least two-thirds of WBCCI Units within one year of submission to them.
The effect of the Motion is to make modest changes in the “Criteria” for designation of “fullysanctioned” caravans: reducing the required duration from 10 nights to 8 nights, the required parking locations from 5 to 4, and the minimum number of Airstream RVs from 10 to 7. The rationale for the motion is based upon the reduction a few years ago of the minimum size for WBCCI units, with the intent of increasing the number of “fully-sanctioned” unit caravans and gaining such caravans the advantages of WBBI designation and numbering.
Adoption of the Motion requires: (a) support by a majority of Region 1 units, evidenced by certificates of their presidents and the Region 1 President; and (b) support by two-thirds of WBCCI units acting within one year of submission of the Motion to them by International Headquarters.
As of this writing, the Motion has been approved by the unanimous votes of New England Unit, Charter Oak CT Unit, Cape Cod MA Unit, and Québec Canada Unit. White Mountains NH Unit will consider the Motion at a Special Unit Meeting on May 31st and Canadian Atlantic Unit at its Spring Business Meeting on June 6th. The Motion was reviewed by Region Caravan Chairman Rich Walbridge, who endorses its adoption.
We thank Bob Thompson and Rick Cipot for proposing a useful motion, and their ingenuity in seeking its adoption via Section 1 of Article XVI of the WBCCI Constitution, which would result in its adoption as presented by them, without amendment.
We anticipate forwarding the Motion to International Headquarters shortly after the Canadian Atlantic Unit Spring Business Meeting, in the hope that then we will have the unanimous support of our six Region 1 units.
Region 1 Luncheon at International Rally
A reminder to members going to the 52nd International Rally in Madison, WI: The traditional Region 1 Luncheon will be a picnic “under the awning”, probably at Dan Dureiko and Bob Butler’s Airstream trailer, #29072, on Monday, June 29th at Noon. Look for an announcement at the Region 1 Desk near the International Rally registration line.
International Board of Trustees Meeting, June 26th
Under “New Business”, one Motion is of particular note: R.B. Bernd, President of Region 10, proposes to amend Bylaws Article XVII, Section 1, to permit units to determine their votes, for candidates for International Office to be elected and motions to be decided at the International Delegates Meeting, at regular or special unit meetings which may allow voting by email, regular mail or facsimile, subject to procedural safeguards set forth in the Motion.
Region 1 units which have previously amended their constitutions or bylaws to permit such voting should be prepared to conform the provisions of their documents to WBCCI Bylaw XVII, Section 1, as it may be amended.
Candidates for Region 1 Office
Your Region 1 Nominating Committee is charged with presenting a slate of candidates for Region President, 1st VP and 2nd VP to the Region 1 Board’s Annual Meeting during the Region 1 Rally, August 5th to 9th, in Essex Junction, VT.
Michelle Plunkett-Lupien is Chair of the Nominating Committee for 2010-2012; the other Committee Members are David Olivier of Canadian Atlantic Unit and Richard Geschwindner of New England Unit. Please contact any of them if you are interested in serving Region 1 as an officer; feel free to contact any current or past Region 1 officer for further information.
“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” Region 1 Rally Update
Trevor Lake is receiving more coupons each week as we progress towards our BIG RALLY of the year in Region 1. In just one week we had many commitments from distant units in Québec, Canadian Atlantic and Region 2; in our difficult economic times we are pleased that folks are focusing on the activities being offered at one single location where the kids can bike and skate on excellent paved roads within the safety of the Champlain Valley Exposition. Also offered at no extra cost is the excellent venue of Northern Vermont in August.
Two tours have been selected and are being offered by Notch Above Tours, too:

1. “Stowe, Sweet Stowe” which includes sweet flavors of Vermont such as Maple Syrup, Cider Donuts, Chocolate and Ice Cream. Much, much more is included with this tour.

2. “History Abounds in Middlebury” which includes stops at a sugarhouse, maple syrup cannery, a brewery, and Addison County historical places of interest.
A complete description of the tours is available in the Region One May Press Release. Note: You must sign up for these tours prior to August 1, 2009, directly with Notch Above Tours, at 800-639-2367.
We have scheduled a hobby show at the Region 1 Rally where members can display what they work so hard to produce in their times of leisure. We’re sure this will produce some astounding work since we have such diversely talented members. So, bring along your photos, sewing, paintings, quilts, wood carvings, plants, etc. If you want to sell any or all of your crafts, you can do that too.
Got your “Fantastic Fan” décor yet? Don’t forget that we’re dressing up ourselves and our rigs in sports memorabilia!
There is plenty to do and see in the northern-most region of the Green Mountain State, so join in and come along to the “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” Region One Rally; you will be glad you did.
